Common Entrepreneur Mistakes

Growing too quickly.

Growing too quickly can be just as dangerous for a new business as moving too slowly. Expansion should only be done to meet the demand of the product, not simply for the sake of growth. It takes time, resources, and more, to develop a new brand or location, which takes away from the successful existing ones. For this reason, it is very important not to grow too quickly.

At times it is much better for the small business just to sit back and build up their capital, instead of borrowing money to try to grow too quickly. The rule should be quality over quantity… always. Make sure you provide the best possible service or product for your existing customers, and can do so for new ones before expanding.

Not staying ahead of the competition.

This should be right on the top of your list of things to do. If you don’t blaze the trail, then you are simply following others. One of the issues which can really hurt your business is not taking notice when a close competitor makes an announcement or launches a new product. If competition has a policy that makes it more convenient for … Read the rest

Reasons Limiting Personal Business at Work Reduces Stress

  • You will get behind in your work- Thinking about personal business while at work, distracts your mind and focus from the job in front of you. Depending on how detailed your job is even the best checklists and procedures can get misused. When you get distracted, things are missed. You will unavoidably be behind because you are rechecking your tracks, extra problems seemed to come up, and you feel irritable and anxious. You may try to catch up by taking work home, with the idea of using your free time to finish your work, this usually does not work because you are literally to close to the problems that are slowing you down in the first place.
  • No matter how careful and discreet you try to get things done, people will still notice- Taking personal phone calls at your desk occasionally is considered by some, short of an emergency. If you leave your desk or a meeting due to a personal call on your cell phone, people around you will notice the frequency and the intensity of your body language when you answered the call. Because we are social animals, we also tend to be socially inquisitive. There are always

Make Sure Your Goals Are High Impact

Goal setting can fall flat when they fail to meet valuable criteria that guide you to implementation success.

That’s why I created a tool called IMPACTOR Goals. So you can make every minute spent goal setting count, and to pave the way for achieving them.

IMPACTOR is an acronym that points out the key steps in setting goals that matter, so your business can have impact.

IMPACTOR goals begin with impact, which I define as where your unique business meets the world and makes it a better place for all of us. Your impact intention needs to be clear before you begin. What difference do you want to make?

Make sure your goals are measurable. It’s tempting to be vague. Don’t give into that. What you measure is more likely to happen.

Goals should be specific, particular. Rather than saying, I want more customers, make your goal 10 more customers. Or two joint venture partners, rather than just ‘more’.

When you get in the planning fever, lofty goals can take a bigger place than is healthy. Goals should be challenging, yes, but make them achievable as well, so you don’t freak yourself into paralysis.

Can you describe your goal … Read the rest

Create Creative Inspiration

Record Everything

When you are thinking about a good idea, it’s important to find a way to record it so you don’t forget. One method that some people use is to get a small recorder. Some phones can be used as a place to record your ideas and inspiration by voice, or by using the stylus and writing on a notepad. The important thing is to get the ideas down so you cannot forget them. Remember, there’s no such thing as a bad idea.

Organize The Thoughts

Once you write something down, you can go in at any time and organize those ideas into more cohesive and complete thoughts. You can chunk things up into like ideas, expensive ideas, doable ideas and however you want to do it, so that you can start making implementation plans.

Trust Yourself More

As you are going through the ideas you recorded while you were inspired, now that you’re looking at it with more critical eyes, it’s important to maintain your excitement and enthusiasm. Trust yourself that you understand your goals and what you want to accomplish so that you can get out of the box and think more creatively.

Practice Creativity

Ways to Network for Young Entrepreneurs

Always introduce yourself first

You are the immediate ambassador of your brand. When you meet new people, clients or potential investors, the first impression is always created by the way you present yourself. Introducing yourself formally will create a good impression and give you the credibility that investors are looking for. The way you present your ideas also matter a lot. Be clear about what your business entails and any important thing that you need to add.

Have a business card

A business card is important when creating new contacts. It helps people remember you even after the event is over. A business card also includes crucial details about your business and the services that you offer. When designing one, making it simple and formal yet containing all the information that needs to be there.

Follow up your new networks

After having a hearty chat, it doesn’t mean that’s the end of it. You need to strengthen the ties and create strong relationships with the people you have just met. This can be achieved by thanking the person, and asking if you could meet them for further talk when they are available. Whenever possible, reach your contacts via email or … Read the rest

Starting Jewelry Business

Assess your mechanical abilities and design skills. Make drawings of your ideas. First, begin designing jewelry for yourself, your family, and your friends before you actually invest much money into your business. Compare your jewelry to the competition’s and research thoroughly before you try to sell yours, but don’t let the competition make you fearful.

Do your research and then purchase the tools and materials that you need to make your jewelry designs. Purchase in bulk or wholesale to save on production costs. Use a spreadsheet to create an inventory system, making it easy to order supplies as you need them. Keep jewelry supply company sites as bookmarks on your computer.

List your business goals and write your business plan. Decide who your target customers will be. This will help define your choice of designs and your marketing plan. Create your niche, the designs that set your jewelry apart from the competition. Determine how much profit you want to make. Set the prices for your jewelry designs, taking into account the amount you spent for supplies, your operating costs and your investment.

Plan where you will sell your jewelry, who is your target audience, and focus on one area or … Read the rest

Ecommerce and Removal of Personal Business Barriers

We’ve all heard stories of the dot com boom and bust. We’ve seen a handful of the original boomers live to tell the story and succeed in a new generation. With the failure of so many online businesses in the past it may seem something close to insane to consider diving into cyber waters.

No one wants to fail and it seems entirely possible with an online business. So we come full circle, why should anyone consider developing an online business?

The reasons may be many, but I want to key in on a few compelling reasons why an online business can have significant meaning for entrepreneurs.

  • Appeals to the dreamer in all of us. Most of us have an idea we polish from time to time with the secret hope that it can be made into a business.
  • An online environment provides an inexpensive way to conduct business. Many online businesses require very little investment and allow a business to be developed in steps.
  • Does not foster discrimination. An online business provides the opportunity to erase borders that may be felt in traditional businesses. For instance there is no age, gender or ethnic boundaries in an online business. This

Reputation Management

Never lose your cool with customers on social media forums. Even if you disagree with a customer, do not attack or act rudely towards the customer. Try to help the customer as best as you can and move on. Always act professionally since you do not want to create a bad reputation for your company.

To help increase your online presence consider using social media. Sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn will help you build business presence both online and offline. To use social media effectively you must post statuses regularly. When posting information through a social media website, use keywords, and give your readers information that they actually need.

Host contests to help bolster your reputation. This is especially important if you have received a bad review. A contest will create a lot of positive information about your company which can help increase your company’s exposure online. This technique will also help raise your page rank on Internet search engines.

Be personable online. Communicate as often as you can with your followers. If a question is posted, answer it as quickly as you can. If you hear a question that you can’t answer right away, indicate that you … Read the rest
